Serena Mandla - CSO & Co-Founder @ Noa Therapeutics & Feyisayo (Feyi) Enuiyin - Founder @ Deus Nobiscum Inc.
Sunday, 10 AM - 11:30 AM EST | Pier 4

Have a promising idea, but not sure if it could become a sustainable business? Interested in entrepreneurship, but not sure where to get started? This interactive workshop will serve as a practical guide, bridging the gap between technical innovation and commercial success. Participants will learn how to apply the Business Model Canvas, a powerful framework for evaluating if a technical concept has a viable path to market. Attendees will have an opportunity to map out a business idea and explore key elements such as value propositions, customer segments, and revenue streams. The activity will be followed by a discussion with Serena Mandla, CSO and Co-Founder of Noa Therapeutics, a preclinical biotech company harnessing the power of the innate immune system, where she'll share her company's journey and the unique challenges of launching a company in a capital-intensive field and strategies for overcoming early hurdles.

Designing Your Own Satellite: An Interactive Workshop in Satellite Operations

Hannah Nicole Chua - Outreach Lead & Riaab Zahid - Mission Operations Lead & Media Lead @ University of Toronto Aerospace Team (UTAT) Space Systems Division
Sunday, 10 AM - 11:30 AM EST | Pier 5

Join UTAT Space Systems for an inside look at how real satellites are designed, built, and operated. We'll walk through our current Earth-observation mission, FINCH, which monitors crop residue for agricultural sustainability, and share how our team successfully launched Canada's first fully student-funded satellite, and the highest-orbiting satellite ever built by an undergraduate design team in the country.

Participants will learn how systems engineering guides every stage of a mission, from NASA's design phases to operational concepts, mode planning, and onboard logic using finite state machines. In the second half of the workshop, you'll work hands-on to design your own satellite modes of operation by arranging internal command flows and creating a functioning mission logic structure. No prior experience required, just curiosity and creativity.

How fMRI Sees the Active Brain: An Introduction to fMRI

Anna Fan & Kyoko Lin - Life Sciences Students & University of Toronto
Sunday, 11:30 AM - 1 PM EST | Pier 4

This workshop introduces participants to how fMRI detects changes in blood oxygenation to infer neural activity. After learning how fMRI captures delayed hemodynamic responses, participants will use guided code to model voxel-level brain activity using a simple model (no prior coding experience is required). Clinical applications and future directions of fMRI technology will also be highlighted.

Winning in a Tough Tech Market

Fatima Taj - Senior Software Engineer @ Yelp; LinkedIn Learning Instructor
Sunday, 11:30 AM - 1 PM EST | Pier 5

The technical interview process is more competitive than ever. Having navigated it myself this year, I've seen firsthand just how intense the market has become—and how success often hinges on more than just solving coding problems. At the same time, as someone who has interviewed and coached countless candidates, I know exactly what differentiates those who walk away with offers from those who don't.

This session is the most holistic, end-to-end guide to technical interviews you'll ever attend. We'll cover the entire journey: from building your network and preparing before the first recruiter call, to standing out during behavioral, coding, and system design rounds, to handling rejections, multiple offers, and negotiations with confidence. Along the way, I'll share concrete strategies, templates, and stories—drawn from both sides of the table—that reveal the little things strong candidates do differently to stand out.

You'll leave not just with a roadmap for interview prep, but with the practical tools and confidence to navigate every stage of the process—and maximize your chances of landing the offer.

Mapping your Academic Journey

Sarah Haines & Morgan Hooper - Assistant Professors @ University of Toronto
Sunday, 2 PM - 3:30 PM EST | Pier 4

In this interactive workshop, Professor Morgan Hooper and Professor Sarah Haines from the University of Toronto will share their own journeys through STEM, from early interests to becoming professors, along with insights from colleagues across diverse academic paths. Participants will build their own "academic roadmap," exploring degree options, timelines, and the many directions a STEM education can lead. Through guided reflection and activities, you'll have the opportunity to identify your values, interests, and long-term goals, and translate them into a concrete, personalized plan for your academic future. By the end of the session, you'll walk away with clarity on potential pathways, key questions for next steps, and the tools to navigate the graduate school landscape with confidence.
